About Our Occupational Therapy Services
Do you or a loved one you know find difficulty performing everyday tasks? Do you find it hard to get dressed, eat meals or bathe yourself? While physical therapists primarily work with people who are recovering from injuries, occupational therapists work to rehabilitate patients by helping them to perform daily tasks in their home or work environments.
Occupational therapy is the use of assessment and treatment to develop, recover, and maintain the daily living and work skills of people with a physical, mental, or cognitive disorder.
At Diversified Hearing Services, our licensed therapists emphasize the practical aspect of helping patients do the things they want and need in order to live life to the fullest. In addition to improving motor skills and functionality, occupational therapy also comes with a host of other benefits.
Some of the key benefits of OT are as follows:
- Help patients perform day-to-day tasks
- Support recovery from injuries
- Help patients with development or cognitive disabilities
- Make recommendations about adaptive equipment
- Advise architects and contractors about patients’ accessibility needs
- Developing strength, endurance and motion
- Developing balance and coordination
- Developing fine motor skills and function
- Increasing independence with daily living
What to Expect at your First Appointment
If you have an occupational therapy appointment scheduled, it’s best to go in prepared.
At your first appointment, the occupational therapist will perform a thorough evaluation to get an idea of your range of motion, strength, balance, and overall situation. Once our evaluation is complete, we will discuss our findings with you and make a treatment plan based on your individual goals and circumstances.
Going forward, we will use various treatment techniques to help you achieve your functional goals. These include manual therapies, therapeutic exercises, and modalities; we will also give you exercises to do on your own to help keep your progress going on pace between visits.
